Who Can Benefit From Personalized Nutrition Therapy?

ANYONE WHO IS EXPERIENCING ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, BIPOLAR DISORDER, SCHIZOPHRENIA, ALZHEIMER’S, DEMENTIA, ETC.

We’ve got to get rid of the term “mental illness” and call these things what they really are: brain health issues that steal your mind.
Get your brain health right and your mind will follow. The end of mental illness really begins with a revolution in brain health.
A big part of this brain health revolution pertains to ensuring that your brain is getting sufficient amounts of the essential vitamins, minerals and fats it needs to function properly. The other part of the picture is excess toxicity, which we address through detoxification and chelation protocols. Did you know that the brain is the fattiest organ in the body? For this reason, most of the toxins and heavy metals you’re exposed to throughout your life end up being stored in your brain, which eventually impair your mind.

In the past few years, EMF radiation has also quickly become one of the leading causes of mental illness, causing memory loss, confusion and fatigue.
For this reason, the amount of EMF exposure a patient is exposed to at home, during sleep and at work is also considered when designing a treatment plan.

MOTHERS-TO-BE

Following a personalized nutritional balancing program prior to pregnancy ensures that mothers-to-be:

– Have proper levels of all key minerals needed for the proper development of the fetus;

– Experience pregnancies with less complications and pain;

– Are able to breastfeed milk to their newborn that is not nutritionally deficient;

– Are less likely to experience postpartum nutrient depletion.

NEWBORNS & CHILDREN

With the Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis, imbalances in newborns and children can be caught and rectified early on before they become severe, thereby enhancing and strengthening both their mental and physical development.

PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES

Professional athletes are constantly under pressure, pushing boundaries and limits, both mentally and physically. This constant exposure to pressure and stress increases body requirements of key minerals such as Zinc, Magnesium, and Potassium because these are especially depleted through the stress process. Furthermore, if an athlete is suffering from adrenal fatigue, this will severely affect their performance quality because when the adrenals are fatigued, the electrolytes Sodium and Potassium are dysregulated in the body and this, in turn, compromises athletic performance.  Other symptoms of adrenal fatigue include fatigue/weakness, low blood pressure, etc. The hair analysis can reveal if an athlete is suffering from adrenal fatigue as well as deficiencies in key minerals needed for optimal athletic performance.

THE ELDERLY

Malnutrition is one of the most common debilitating conditions affecting the elderly population these days for various reasons:
– less stomach acid and enzymes is produced by the body of the elderly and this in turn impairs the proper digestion and assimilation of nutrients;
– the diet of many elderly tends isn’t as nutritionally diverse as it should be because the older one gets the more attached and comfortable one becomes with eating the same foods every day. The quality of foods served in most elderly and retirement homes is also very poor, at least in North America;
– many elderly are put on a cocktail of pharmaceutical drugs, all of which rapidly deplete the body of key minerals needed from proper brain health, bone health, heart health, etc.

With personalized nutrition therapy, we can reduce their risk of disease (i.e. heart disease, osteoporosis, etc.) and improve their quality of life, allowing them to age gracefully and with dignity.

PETS

The benefits we enjoy with personalized nutrition therapy can also be enjoyed by our dear pets as well.
In most cases, our pets have shorter lifespans than we do. Therefore, investing in their health can mean that they’ll be able to be a part of the family for more years and in better health.

What’s A Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis?

A hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) simply stated, is a screening test that measures the mineral content of your hair. However, a hair tissue mineral analysis is much more than a test for minerals. Providing a blueprint of one’s biochemistry, a hair tissue mineral analysis can provide pertinent information about your toxic heavy metal levels, metabolic rate, energy levels, carbohydrate tolerance, stage of stress, immune system, glandular activity and more. This screening test can also be used to reduce the guesswork involved when recommending nutritional supplements and dietary modifications.

Why Test For Minerals?

Zinc ~ Zinc deficiency leads to poor neurological function, weakened immunity (frequent colds), diarrhea, allergies, thinning hair, stunted growth, leaky gut, acne or rashes, copper toxicity, sleep problems, low libido, low stomach HCL (poor digestion), etc;

Magnesium ~ Magnesium is a cofactor in more than 300 enzyme systems that regulate diverse biochemical reactions in the body, including protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation. Magnesium is required for energy production, oxidative phosphorylation, and glycolysis. It contributes to the structural development of bone and is required for the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and the antioxidant glutathione. Magnesium also plays a role in the active transport of calcium and potassium ions across cell membranes, a process that is important to nerve impulse conduction, muscle contraction, and normal heart rhythm.

Potassium deficiency ~ Poor nutrient transportation into cells, muscular weakness, mild depression, lethargy/weakness, tingling/numbness, nausea/vomiting, abdominal cramping/bloating, constipation, heart palpitations, high blood pressure, heart disease, strokes, kidney stones, poor concentration/memory, reduced bone formation, joint pain, etc.

Copper toxicity ~ Headaches and migraines, anemia, mood swings, super-sensitive and weepy, dry skin, arthritis, racing heart, yeast infections, aching muscles, PMS, panic attacks, etc.

In the words of the late author and noted researcher, Dr. Henry Schroeder, trace elements (minerals) are “…more important factors in human nutrition than vitamins. The body can manufacture many vitamins, but it cannot produce necessary trace minerals or get rid of many possible excesses.”

What Can Cause Mineral Imbalances?

DIET – Improper diet through high intake of refined and processed foods, alcohol and fad diets can all lead to a chemical imbalance. Even the nutrient content of a “healthy” diet can be inadequate, depending upon the soil in which the food was grown or the method with which it was prepared.

STRESS – Physical or emotional stress can deplete the body of many nutrients while also reducing the capability to absorb and utilize many nutrients. Specifically, the key minerals Zinc, Magnesium, and Potassium are significantly depleted through the stress process which then gives way to a cascade of mineral dysregulation within the body, because nutrients work together and not in isolation.

MEDICATIONS – Both prescription and over-the-counter medications can deplete the body stores of nutrient minerals and/or increase the levels of toxic metals. These medications include diuretics, cholesterol lowering drugs, antacids, aspirin, oral contraceptives, antibiotics, steroids, anti-inflammatories, etc.

POLLUTION – From adolescence through adulthood the average person is continually exposed to a variety of toxic metal sources such as cigarette smoke (cadmium), hair dyes (lead), hydrogenated oils (nickel), antiperspirants (aluminum), dental amalgams (mercury and cadmium), copper and aluminum cookware and lead-based cosmetics. These are just a few of the hundreds of sources which can contribute to nutrient imbalances and adverse metabolic effects.

ROUNDUP PESTICIDE (Glyphosate) – Glyphosate is a chelating agent, a chemical that bonds to minerals. It was originally manufactured to remove mineral deposits in water boilers. Glyphosate is found in almost every food nowadays, in meats, almost all grains, fruits, vegetables, etc. For this reason, it is vitally important to avoid GMO foods which have been designed to be grown with Roundup as much as possible and opt for organic as much as possible.

EMF RADIATION – New studies have revealed that the daily requirements for the minerals magnesium, zinc and selenium increase the more one is exposed to wifi radiation (4G/5G), because these minerals enable the body to reduce the oxidative damage and DNA damage caused by EMF’s.

MALABSORPTION – An imbalanced gut microbiome, mucoid plaque in the intestines, low stomach acid (HCL) production, low enzyme production, etc can all lead to poor digestion and absorption of key minerals and vitamins which in turn will lead to severe biochemical imbalances.

NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS – Taking incorrect supplements or improper amounts of supplements can produce many vitamin and mineral excesses and/or deficiencies, contributing to an overall biochemical imbalance.

INHERITED PATTERNS – A predisposition toward certain mineral imbalances, deficiencies and excesses can be inherited from parents.

"You can trace every sickness, every disease, and every ailment to a mineral deficiency." ~ Dr. Linus Pauling (Two-time Nobel Prize Winner) "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food." ~ Hippocrates "One man‘s food is another man’s poison." ~ Chinese Proverb "Treat disease first of all through the diet and refrain from medicines." ~ Bahá‘u’lláh (Lawh-i-Tibb) "The Báb hath said that the people of Bahá must develop the science of medicine to such a high degree that they will heal illnesses by means of foods." ~ ‘Abdu’l-Bahá

Can Vitamin Requirements Be Determined From A Mineral Test?

Minerals interact not only with each other but also with vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Minerals influence each of these factors, and they, in turn, influence mineral status. Minerals act as enzyme activators, and vitamins are synergistic to minerals as coenzymes. It is extremely rare that a mineral disturbance develops without a corresponding disturbance in the synergistic vitamin(s). It is also rare for a disturbance in the utilization or activity of a vitamin to occur without affecting a synergistic mineral(s). For example, vitamin C affects iron absorption and reduces copper retention. Boron and iron influence the status of vitamin B2. Vitamin B2 affects the relationship between calcium and magnesium. Vitamin B1 enhances sodium retention, B12 enhances iron and cobalt absorption, and vitamin A enhances the utilization of zinc, while antagonizing vitamins D and E. Protein intake will affect zinc status, etc. Therefore, evaluating mineral status provides good clues of vitamin status and requirements. Continuing research at Trace Elements involves the recognition of many synergistic and antagonistic interrelationships between minerals and vitamins.

Is A Hair Analysis A Valid Basis For Evaluation Of A Person’s Chemistry?

Blood tests and urine tests obviously provide important information about a person’s biochemical status, but they only evaluate the fluids in the body. However, the vast majority of biochemical functions actually take place inside the cells themselves. Of course, we can’t conveniently take snips out of the various organs of a person’s body in order to evaluate what is going on in the cells, but there are cells conveniently available to us, the cells of the hair. Through extensive research and correlation of data, it has been established that there are reliable relationships between the levels of minerals in the hair and other tissues of the body. Thus, analysis of the mineral content of an individual’s hair can provide us with a general ‘blueprint’ of the mineral content in the rest of the body’s tissues. Since these minerals are crucial to the functioning of enzymes, hormones and other biochemical systems which sustain life, it is possible to read this ‘blueprint’ and see where metabolic patterns are deviating from normal.

Another benefit of hair analysis is that it may be used to assist the health care professional to pinpoint the development of metabolic dysfunctions often before symptoms manifest. While mineral imbalances in the body do eventually show up in the blood serum, they will not do so until the condition is so advanced that the individual is often experiencing overt symptoms. Tissue mineral analysis allows us to determine that an imbalance exists, before the imbalance begins to manifest disturbances on a symptomatic level. Therefore, the imbalance can often be corrected through nutritional therapy even before a person begins to suffer from metabolic symptoms.

Is The Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis Supported By Research?

Hair tissue mineral analysis is supported by an impressive body of literature in a variety of respected national and international scientific publications. Over the past twenty-five years hair mineral testing has been extensive. Each year in the United States alone, federally licensed clinical laboratories perform over 150,000 hair mineral assays for health care professionals interested in an additional screening aid for a comprehensive patient evaluation. This does not take into consideration the thousands of subjects used in numerous continuing research studies conducted by private and government research agencies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Scalp hair is the most accurate source recommended for analysis, taken from the back of the head.
In situations where hair sample is not possible, hair from other parts of the body may be submitted though results will be less accurate. Nails can also be used as a sample.

Each collected sample should be taken in a number of small portions from various locations of the scalp at the rear of the head between the ears. Snipping small amounts in numerous locations allows for less disturbance to one’s hairstyle and will be, in most cases, completely unnoticeable.

Ideally, the portion of hair to be collected should be untreated, i.e. not permed, dyed or bleached.
The hair should also be free of all gels, oils and hair creams prior to sample collection.
If your hair has been treated with a natural dye or henna, this is ok as it will not affect hair composition.

It’s not the length that is important but rather the quantity and location. If the quantity of hair submitted is insufficient, the lab will not be able to perform the analysis and you’ll be required to submit more hair.

The length of the collected hair should not exceed 1.5 inches but it can be shorter.

The weight of the collected hair sample should be at least 150 milligrams (0.15 grams). I recommend submitting more hair just to be safe. About one full tablespoon.

Yes. Most shampoos and conditioners do not contain metals and will not affect the accuracy of the analysis. However, many are fortified with selenium, zinc, and iron. Some formulas contain lead as well. This is why we also ask that you provide the name of your shampoo in the lab submittal form so that we can verify its ingredients in the event that these minerals/metals show high in your results.

Complete instructions, which also includes the Lab address, will be emailed to you within 24 hours of your purchase.

After the lab receives your hair sample and submittal form, it’ll take the lab about 5 business days to analyze your hair and email me your results;

If you’re mailing in your hair sample from outside of the United States or Canada, naturally, it will take longer to arrive.

No. Everything is done online. Upon purchase of your HTMA package, you will receive an email with:

  • Instructions on how to collect a proper hair sample and where to send it;
  • Your lab submittal form;
  • A health intake questionnaire;
  • An informed consent form.

Your lab results and professional assessment will also be delivered to you digitally (via email) in pdf format.

Supplements are not included. Depending on the package you choose, your payment will be covering the hair analysis, a recommended personalized nutrition program (foods and supplements) and an online consultation.

I don’t sell supplements at this time but you may purchase your recommended supplements directly from the T.E.I. Labs, from your local health food store or online.

The cost of supplements will vary depending on your Hair Analysis results and your unique nutritional needs.

Adjusting one’s biochemistry and healing from adrenal fatigue is a slow process and can take anywhere from a few months to a few years. Having said that, some of my patients report noticeable improvements in their well-being within the first two weeks of following their nutrition program.

The more severe your biochemical imbalances and adrenal fatigue, the longer will a personalized nutrition therapy program be required. Generally, however, I don’t recommend following the same program for more than six months at a time because your body’s biochemistry will change as a result of the program and this, in turn, will require an adjustment in your supplementation program. A hair analysis retest is recommended after 4-6 months.

Trace Elements Labs. They have been in the business of biochemical balancing for over 30 years, so they understand the science of nutrition whereas most other supplement companies don’t. Trace elements produces synergistic formulations, this means that when you purchase a particular vitamin or mineral supplement from T.E.I Labs, the vitamin or mineral always comes with other synergistic minerals and vitamins, in the proper dose, needed to maximize absorption in the body. As you probably already know, minerals and vitamins don’t act independently in the body, they work together with other synergistic nutrients. Furthermore, the minerals in their supplements are chelated forms, which maximizes absorption and ensures that you are getting the actual dose you need when you follow your personalized nutrition therapy program. With supplements from most other companies, only a small percentage of the mineral or vitamin is absorbed while the rest is passed out through the urine. I see and hear of the positive effects of T.E.I supplements with my patients every day and that’s why I can confidently recommend them.
